West End NEWS correspondent Pamela Cragin will be headed back to
Guanaja Island, Honduras, next month, where she and her husband
Scott Duncan operate a flyfishing tour called Flyfish Guanaja. Among
their most notable guests last season was former President Jimmy
Carter, pictured above with the couple. Carter and his wife Rosalynn
and two of their flyfishing friends were accompanied by  twenty secret
service people - including a doctor, a rescue swimmer and a Honduran
navy boat.

Carter endorsed the couple's mangrove restoration project ( their non
profit is: Guanaja Mangroves Restoration, sponsored by Ocean Fund),
and the former president helped plant some of the mangrove propagules
in an effort to restore coastal mangrove forests that were wiped out by
Hurricane Mitch in 1998, and still haven’t fully recovered.

Volunteers have planted more than 88,000 saplings, and the goal is to
plant about a half million propagules. They are looking for financial
contributions and volunteers to help with the hard work, and who
wouldn't mind taking a break from the upcoming Maine winter.
